These courses are simple introductions to ceramic arts for the grown ups (ages 18+). We cover the basics of hand building and throwing on the wheel, and explore surface and glazing techniques for the electric kiln. This highly creative class is fun for everyone! We’ll provide the clay and creative tools to suit your unique style.

Kids are the most awesome artists!  This class is designed with young learners in mind -we’ll explore various techniques and tools with a twist of silly and a sprinkling of academics. While they create their next masterpiece in the studio, students will learn what clay is made of and where to find it, it’s history and diverse impact on society, and it’s modern role in the world around us. This is a great opportunity for the home-school community to incorporate History, Chemistry, Archaeology, Geology, Geography, Fire Science, Ecology, Anthroplology concepts into a multisensory creative learning experience. All materials are provided; sibling and group rates are available.

These classes incorporate local traditions, ancient practices, and contemporary knowledge to create beautiful potteries. Wild clays are gathered responsibly, potteries shaped by hand, and fired with organic fuels. Students learn to shape the clay with coils and simple tools, much like our ancestors did. Finishing techniques include pit fires, raku, saggar, and other methods to achieve high reduction atmospheres in the lower temperature ranges.

Ancient Clay course includes a field trip to collect wild clay, class time to process and prepare, instruction to form and finish, and a final class to fire the pottery.
